Global Perspectives

Global Perspectives Instruction Plan

Global Perspectives reinforces and expands upon the skills practiced in ILA, ENGL 110, and COMM 101 by providing a scholarly research experience. A scaffolded approach to this assignment provides ample opportunity to locate contextual information, strategically explore an interdisciplinary topic, and build information evaluation skills.

Locating Contextual Information

Introducing the idea of topic exploration early in a research project can better inform a student on the complexities of a topic, and ultimately build better research arguments. An assignment, prior to the library research session, will introduce reference and information resources to locate background and contextual information.

Research Instruction Session (50 min)

The instruction session in Hewes Library will build on the COMM 101 research skills: resource selection, search strategies and evaluation of information. Faculty may schedule a library session with Anne Giffey.

Reading Scholarly Literature

Students are assigned a video (courtesy of Kishwaukee College Library) introducing methods for reading scholarly articles. Assessment in the form of a short Moodle quiz (see Hewes Library course) will be reported to the faculty.
