Classics Organizations

Below is a short listing of professional organizations and societies involved in the study of Classics or Classical Languages. All of the various organizations offer discounted student memberships and many are open to the general public.

American Philological Association
Founded in 1869, the APA is the principal learned society in North America for the study of ancient Greek and Roman languages, literatures, and civilizations.
Archaeological Institute of America.
The AIA promotes an informed public interest in the cultures and civilizations of the past, and supports archaeological research and practice.
American Classical League
The American Classical League was founded in 1919 for the purpose of fostering the study of classical languages in the United States and Canada.
Classical Association of the MIddle West and South (CAMWS)
The Classical Association of the Middle West and South is an organization for Classics (Latin and Greek) teachers at all levels, undergraduate and graduate students, and anyone else who enjoys learning about the world of classical antiquity.
Eta Sigma Phi
Eta Sigma Phi is the national honorary collegiate society for students of Latin and/or Greek.
Western Illinois Society of the Archaeological Institute of America
The Western Illinois Society was founded in 1984 by Prof. Thomas Sienkewicz of Monmouth College and received its charter from the Archaeological Institute of America in 1999.
