  • Please note that library staff will be monitoring communication during closed hours and will assist patrons as much as possible.

Have questions? Need research help? Librarians will be available, remotely, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Here's how to reach us:

  • Chat or text (309-204-9275) with a librarian Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm, 7pm-10pm, Friday 8am-5pm. 
  • When service is offline, you'll be prompted to email a librarian from the chat feature, and texts will be answered the next business day.

I want to return a book or other physical material.

How do I access library resources from off campus? 

  • All Library databases are accessible from off campus. (Watch a video on remote accessibility.)
    • When you click on a link to a database, you will be prompted by an MC login screen. Enter your MC username and password - the same one you use to access your MC email.
    • Once logged in, you can use the resource as if you were on campus.
  • Find the list of databases at the "Databases A-Z" tab on the library's website (center Search widget)
  • Browse a list of Databases by Subject

I need access to a physical reserve for class.

  • We will do our best to help you access course reserves. Contact Hewes Library: 309-457-2190 or ILL@monmouthcollege.edu.  

I need a book, chapter or other physical material.

  • Contact Hewes Library to decide the best way to access a particular item: 309-457-2190 or ILL@monmouthcollege.edu
  • I-Share is not available at this time. This includes ordering materials online and in-person borrowing at other libraries.
  • It may be challenging to obtain physical items at this time, so we encourage you to contact us for assistance.

I need a journal article.

  • All Library article databases are accessible from off campus.  (Watch a video on remote accessibility.)
  • See the "Databases A-Z" tab on the library's website (center Search widget)
  • If you have a specific article citation:
    • Search for the journal title on the "Periodicals A-Z" tab on the library's website (center Search widget). If the periodical issue is available in full text, this resource will lead to the article.
    • If not available full text, submit a request for the article via ILLiad, and the article will be provided electronically. Learn more about ILLiad.

How do I renew a book? 

  • Overdue fines for books and other library materials have been suspended. Don't worry about the due date that may appear on your account! All materials, whether owned by Hewes Library or borrowed through ILLiad or I-Share may be kept until the end of the semester. For more information on returning materials, see "I want to return a book" below.
  • Renew Monmouth College and I-Share items: Log into your Hewes Library account. Monmouth College and I-Share items can be renewed 3 times (4 wk increments).
